Ergathon goes up the creek

The ULU Boat Club Ergathon, scheduled for Friday, October 24th, was cancelled at the last minute, writes Ade Oshineye. This was due to "reasons beyond our control" according to Dan Brown, Vice President Sport. Rowing stars such as Greg Searle, Tim Foster, and Rupert Obholzer had been due to make an appearance in the charity event in Covent Garden, to raise money for Stoke Mandeville hospital, as well as fund raising for the boat club itself. However, according to Brown, "problems with the Council" meant that the event had to be called off with reasonably short notice. Brown’s response when asked about the chances of rescheduling was: "not in the immediate future." The sponsors, Waterrower, were unavailable for comment.

On an unrelated note, the Boat Club’s Chief Coach, Maurice Hayes, is leaving to join the Amateur Rowing Association. Interviews for a successor have already been finished, and a replacement for Hayes’ position will be announced shortly.
